Encik Tan was established in 2014 to serve the growing demand for authentic Chinese hawker fare among Muslim customers, introducing a halal-certified mini food atrium concept that delivers popular local Chinese dishes. All recipes are meticulously adapted using halal ingredients and fine-tuned to deliver the same nostalgic flavour and taste of the original dishes while maintaining full halal compliance.

The menu features beloved local favorites including Hainanese Curry Rice with options like Chicken, Chicken Drumstick, Fried Fish, Fried Prawn, and Sambal Sotong served with fragrant rice and rich curry. Additional offerings include Wanton Noodles, Fishball Noodles, Ban Mian, Laksa, and Claypot Rice, ensuring a comprehensive selection of Chinese hawker classics.

With more than 18 halal-certified outlets across Singapore, including locations at Alexandra Retail Centre, Bedok Mall, Changi Airport Terminal 3, 313@Somerset, and Compass One, Encik Tan has made authentic Chinese cuisine accessible to Muslim diners throughout the island. The restaurant's commitment to preserving traditional flavors while adapting to halal requirements has earned positive reviews for dishes like their crispy chicken cutlet with moist meat and well-seasoned curry sauce that balances spice with subtle sweetness.

Went here with my friend. She got rojak while I got carrot cake. My carrot cake was superb, but her rojak was apparently not nice. She said it tasted stale. Also, the man taking our order was quite rude.

The food, especially the chicken cutlet, has always been nice. However, today, December 13th (Monday), I bought food around 6 PM for dinner and saw a couple of houseflies. I've never encountered this before. This suggests that food waste is not being disposed of properly. So, please check for houseflies before you queue up to order. I hope this is helpful to those who enjoy Encik Tan's dishes.

The real bummer about this place is the staff and service. I'm not sure if it's due to a lack of staff (only 4 staff manning the counter), perhaps not enough rotation for rest? I'm not sure. Or maybe they lack training. To start off, I ordered 7 Ice Teh O, and the drinks were all very bitter, with little to no sugar. Basically, my Teh O tasted like Kopi O. At 4:30 pm on a Sunday, a lot of food was no longer available. The food waiting time was also long, about 10-15 minutes.

Had the claypot chicken rice with salted egg. The price is probably the only redeeming point. The rice was not cooked enough, so there was no crispy bottom layer, just a thin layer of dry rice. The sauce wouldn't even sizzle in the pot. The chilli was not spicy enough. The salted egg was just weird; it was one whole solid egg yolk. It didn't crumble well, so there was no good way to break it down and mix it with the rice.

All the workers here, especially the younger ones, displayed a 'bo-chap' attitude. They made you wait at the counter, then slowly came over to serve you as if we owed them a living. Today, I tried their chicken cutlet curry rice and truly regretted it big time. The rice was not fully cooked, making it very hard to eat. When I returned to the office, my boss mentioned that this had happened many times before. I ate halfway and gave up. I won't come again.

Just had dinner at the new Encik Tan outlet here at Downtown East. This outlet is huge! It's also bright and has a lot of nicely spaced-out tables. I ordered the Salted Egg Chicken Claypot Rice. It was not bad, something new to try. Make sure to mix the salted egg and sauce well with the rice. Adding the orange chili will give it an extra kick. This place can get quite busy during peak hours.

Clean tables, air-conditioned, and plenty of seats on weekday lunch. Service was fast and organised; we made our order and paid cashless. Very good portions for the price. A hand-washing basin is located right beside the tray return station. Very thoughtful.

Not sure what the terrible reviews are about for this place because I love it! I come here at least once a month. Must-haves: chicken cutlet curry rice and minced meat noodles/fish ball noodles. I have high expectations for both, and although they aren't quite hawker centre standard, for the price point, a clean and air-conditioned environment, it's really worth it! I must say the staff aren't the most efficient cooks, but Encik Tan is a great place to find hawker food without having to melt under the heat. The place is always super clean and tidy, and Aunty always gives me extra curry upon request.
