Encik Tan was established in 2014 to serve the growing demand for authentic Chinese hawker fare among Muslim customers, introducing a halal-certified mini food atrium concept that delivers popular local Chinese dishes. All recipes are meticulously adapted using halal ingredients and fine-tuned to deliver the same nostalgic flavour and taste of the original dishes while maintaining full halal compliance.
The menu features beloved local favorites including Hainanese Curry Rice with options like Chicken, Chicken Drumstick, Fried Fish, Fried Prawn, and Sambal Sotong served with fragrant rice and rich curry. Additional offerings include Wanton Noodles, Fishball Noodles, Ban Mian, Laksa, and Claypot Rice, ensuring a comprehensive selection of Chinese hawker classics.
With more than 18 halal-certified outlets across Singapore, including locations at Alexandra Retail Centre, Bedok Mall, Changi Airport Terminal 3, 313@Somerset, and Compass One, Encik Tan has made authentic Chinese cuisine accessible to Muslim diners throughout the island. The restaurant's commitment to preserving traditional flavors while adapting to halal requirements has earned positive reviews for dishes like their crispy chicken cutlet with moist meat and well-seasoned curry sauce that balances spice with subtle sweetness.

The minced chicken was undercooked and smelled! The noodles were overcooked; the whole portion had pretty much merged together into one big clump. The sauce was horribly mixed. I'm not sure how the chef managed it, but it was certainly the worst BCM I've ever had – a combination of bad sauce and soggy noodles. You can see in the picture that the noodles are overly cooked, appearing pale and breaking apart, while some are clumping together.
The BCM here used to be quite nice and decent, however today's experience was terrible. Although I was hungry, I didn't feel like eating the soggy, clumpy noodles!

The chicken cutlet was so pathetic, smaller than the palm of a 3-year-old. I'm not even exaggerating; all of my colleagues were commenting on it too. I don't recall other outlets giving such small portions. The auntie seemed so stingy and like she was just doing her job carelessly. Won't recommend.

Multiple eggshells were found in my dinner, and the shells were huge. Higher food and service standards can be found in other Encik Tan's branches. I wouldn't come back.

They gave me the smallest drumstick, hidden at the front, and charged extra for it. The bigger one was only for display. I wish I hadn't paid extra and felt cheated.

Went during lunch time at 1:45pm, and everything was sold out except for the chicken cutlet. The two staff members were too busy chatting to attend to any customers. The portion size wasn't even sufficient for a 3-year-old. I've been to many other outlets, but I've never seen such a small portion before.

Perhaps it was after office hours, around 7 pm, as the food was running out. My favourite, Laksa, was unavailable, and the curry rice was cold with no sambal chilli. The atmosphere felt unwelcoming, as if they were rushing us to leave because closing time was near. Understandably, this might be the case after a long day. Getting a seat was not an issue as there were many empty ones in the evening. The service staff diligently cleared our trays while we were busy chatting. Parking is free and easily accessible for wheelchair users.

It's better than when I last visited in Jan 2023. The curry is thicker and spicier, unlike the floury taste I had in January. Keep up the good work!

Visited during the lunch hour on 27 March. The food was surprisingly served quickly, and the drink I ordered was completed really fast. The price was rather affordable too; this set meal costed around $8. The seating area, however, is a little limited and fills up quite fast, especially during lunch hour as the mall this Encik Tan is located in mainly caters to the office crowd. Overall, the food was good and I will definitely come back.
