Hjh Maimunah Restaurant represents the pinnacle of traditional Malay and Indonesian cuisine in Singapore, proudly carrying the prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition that acknowledges their exceptional quality and cultural significance in preserving authentic Southeast Asian culinary traditions. Established in the early 1990s with humble beginnings as a Middle Eastern-based catering service for Hajj travellers, the restaurant has evolved over three decades into Singapore's most celebrated Nasi Padang destination, with strategic locations at Jalan Pisang near Arab Street, Joo Chiat, and Kitchener Road that serve both local communities and international visitors seeking authentic regional flavors. Their complete halal certification ensures that their time-honored recipes and traditional cooking methods remain accessible to all communities while maintaining the cultural authenticity that has earned them recognition as custodians of Singapore's Malay culinary heritage.

The extensive menu at Hjh Maimunah showcases over 100 meticulously prepared items that span the complete spectrum of traditional Malay and Indonesian cuisine, featuring legendary signature dishes like Beef Rendang with its complex spice layers, Ayam Bakar Sunda with authentic grilling techniques, Lemak Siput Sedut celebrating traditional seafood preparations, and Tahu Telur representing classic comfort food excellence. Their approach to Nasi Padang follows authentic traditions where diners select from an abundant spread of pre-prepared dishes, each crafted using recipes passed down through generations and prepared fresh daily using traditional methods that create the intense, complex flavors that distinguish authentic regional cuisine from simplified adaptations. The comprehensive selection ranges from delicious fried snacks and flavorful kampung dishes to sumptuous home-made desserts, ensuring that every meal represents a complete cultural and culinary journey through the rich traditions of Malay and Indonesian cooking.

Hjh Maimunah's sustained success and Michelin recognition stem from their unwavering commitment to authenticity, quality consistency, and cultural preservation that transcends typical restaurant operations to become cultural ambassadors for traditional Southeast Asian cuisine. Their island-wide delivery services, elegant buffet catering, mini buffet options, and bento box offerings demonstrate their adaptability to contemporary dining needs while maintaining traditional preparation standards, making authentic Malay cuisine accessible for corporate events, family gatherings, and religious observances. The restaurant's reputation for delivering intensely flavorful dishes without excessive oil or grease, combined with their role in introducing generations of Singaporeans to authentic regional flavors, positions them as both culinary institution and cultural treasure that continues to educate palates while preserving the authentic tastes that define Singapore's rich Malay culinary heritage for future generations.

Bought this at The Basement, Raffles. The rendang was priced at $4.50. As you can see in the image, the portion of rendang given is on the top left. It's about half the size of a namecard. I asked the cashier why it was so small, and he brushed me off, saying there was a customer behind. The total price was $10.

The food was delicious, but the flip side of my experience was... I had to queue for 30 minutes just to place my order, and then wait in another 20 minutes queue to make payment and collect the food. While the taste was good, I'm not sure it was worth spending nearly an hour for the food.

Their service is pathetically slow. So what if the food is nice? All appetite is gone after seeing them work so slowly.

Located in the basement of the HLEONG building. Hjh Maimunah Mini never disappoints me. The food is nice with great taste. Prepare for a long queue during lunchtime. Teh botol sosro costs $2.5. The plastic plate isn't very firm, so be careful when holding it. The price is okay. Highly recommended!

Authentic nasi padang eatery located in the basement of Hong Leong building, long queue during lunch

An authentic nasi padang eatery located in the basement of Hong Leong Building. There's a long queue during lunch, but it moves along quickly. I tried the chicken opor (which is a bit spicy, somewhat like green curry), though the ayam goreng looks tempting too. IG @pingguo301

It was $8 for the chicken set! It comes with chicken of your choice and 2 side dishes. HJH has quite consistent standards, and the staff are friendly too, always willing to give you extra gravy or anything! They also have 4 different chili sauces at the counter for self-service. Nice! It's a value for money meal. There's a long queue during lunchtime, with one queue to order and another to pay!

Consistent flavour and taste - i look forward to lunches in office when the cravings for nasi padang

Consistent flavour and taste. I look forward to lunches in the office when the cravings for nasi padang hit, knowing I have access to HJH Maimunah nearby. Queues can get snakingly long, so I'd recommend either before 11:30 AM or after 1 PM. My go-to beef rendang set is $8.50, with various chili sauces/rempah available for self-serve.
