Originally starting as a humble family bakery serving the local community with traditional confectioneries and bread, the brand has evolved into a comprehensive halal-certified chain with 64 outlets across Singapore. What makes Mr Bean truly special is its commitment to healthy, soy-based products that cater to both sweet and savory preferences, making it a popular destination for health-conscious consumers seeking halal dining options.

The menu at Mr Bean showcases an impressive variety of soy-centric offerings, from their signature Original Recipe pancakes filled with red bean, tuna, chicken mayo, kaya cheese, and innovative seasonal flavors like Gula Melaka and Curry Chicken with Potato. Their wholesome rice bowls feature meat-free alternatives like Japanese Curry and Truffle Mushroom options, while their beverage selection ranges from classic soy milk at $2.50 to exotic drinks like Icy Sea Salt Chendol at $5.20. The brand also offers nutritious rice balls, silky beancurd, grass jelly combinations, and healthy soy granola bars, ensuring there's something for every dietary preference and taste profile.

Mr Bean's recent achievement of complete MUIS halal certification across all outlets represents a significant milestone in Singapore's inclusive dining landscape, making quality soy-based nutrition accessible to the broader Muslim community. The brand's focus on affordability, with most items priced under $6, combined with their commitment to fresh daily preparation and healthy ingredients, positions them as a cornerstone of Singapore's fast-casual dining scene. Their continuous innovation in developing new flavors while maintaining traditional appeal demonstrates their understanding of evolving consumer preferences and their dedication to serving Singapore's diverse culinary landscape.

Mr Bean 2024 Apr. 2 stars to 1. $20: Not satisfying. Not value for money. Overpriced. Not sure if I will patronize again. Mr Bean has been around for so many decades, but perhaps the franchises are taking a blowback. Franchises are good for business and profits for the owner, but they can degrade the taste and freshness of food and tarnish the name. $3.60: The long-awaited curry chicken potato (not too spicy is good), but it's not as fragrant as before and way too salty, in fact, unevenly salted. They can go easy on the salt. Actually, no salt is needed if the ingredients are well marinated. $6.10: Hainanese porridge is very expensive, too small a bowl for the price. And maybe it's targeted for those who like all the condiments (MSG, fried onions, spring onions...), otherwise, it's flat. A good bowl of congee, three times the size with more flavor and ingredients, can be attained for $7. $2.75: Classic Beancurd is terrible. The syrup is not fragrant, not technically well cooked, and maybe the sugar used is wrong. It tastes and smells slightly sour, and the beancurd is not smooth but already slightly curdled. This issue was raised many years ago with an outlet outside Tampines MRT. And till today, it's still happening. The problem could probably be because it's made in a factory and not carefully transported to the outlets. $3.40: Almond Longan jelly is tasty but has a slightly sour aftertaste. _________________________________ 2021 Mr Bean in general, and not any particular outlet, has degraded. The soyabean milk is less fragrant, less tasty, and less milky. Once, from Tampines MRT, the beancurd was hard and not as smooth, even after a replacement. Another time from CompassOne, the beancurd with black sesame glutinous balls caused an upset tummy. Granola bars are tasty but contain some small hard beads which require carefulness not to bite on them, as they feel like they could crack teeth.

Bought two soyabean milks. They were thick and sticky, and tasted bland. The soyabean milk should be put in a one-hand carrier rather than a wide plastic bag, as it was extremely difficult to take out. I spilled the soyabean milk when removing it. The soyabean milk I prefer is one that is smoother.

I bought the vegetarian jade tofu porridge and it was literally cold. I ate it right away after ordering, but it was still cold. The tofu was also spoiled; it was so sour. I really hope they can improve.

Avoid their melon soyamilk if it's on promotion. I literally had diarrhea four times (as of now) after drinking just one mouthful, and discovered it had a mushy, weird texture and taste.

I really love their 3-in-1 riceball (2 black sesame and 2 peanut). Their beancurd is smooth and the sweetness is just right! I've been visiting several times and have tried their chocolate & cheese pancake beancurd, porridge, rice, and coffee. Most of their desserts are served hot, which I love. I would recommend their rice bowl over their porridge.

Spicy chicken bowl. My favorite! I requested a hard-boiled egg instead. The lady working there (on 3rd Aug) was all smiles and willingly did it for me. Perhaps it was a weekday afternoon and not crowded. Still, thanks for the extra effort!

Donkey and I recently decided to treat ourselves to a little shopping spree at Hougang Mall. We were both craving something warm and comforting, so we headed over to Mr. Bean, known for their delicious tangyuan. The Good: ● Soya Milk: The warm soya milk was refreshing and perfectly balanced – smooth, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness. ● Tangyuan: The peanut tangyuan in ginger soup was a delightful treat. The warm ginger soup was incredibly soothing, and the peanut filling was perfectly sweet and nutty. Overall: Mr. Bean at Hougang Mall offered us a touch of comfort and warmth on a chilly day. The soya milk was refreshing and the tangyuan was simply delightful. We highly recommend it for a quick and comforting treat.

Today, Kitty and I decided to treat ourselves to a little shopping spree at Hougang Mall. We were both craving something warm and comforting, so we headed over to Mr. Bean. I was curious to try their famous tangyuan. We both opted for a classic warm soya milk and shared it between us. It was so refreshing! We both agreed that the soya bean itself was really good – smooth, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness. Then came the tangyuan! Kitty got the peanut tangyuan in the ginger soup, and I couldn't resist trying a few. The warm ginger soup was so soothing, and the peanut filling in the tangyuan was perfectly sweet and nutty. It was the perfect way to end our shopping trip. We both left feeling happy and satisfied, with a little extra warmth in our hearts.

My go-to orders are always the cheese or red bean pancakes, soya bean curd, or the drink. They have many fancy flavours now, but I always stick to my favourites whenever I'm here.
