I went to Polar Puff & Cakes Pte Ltd @ Novena Square 2 this afternoon to get a Lychee Rose cake for $10.80 and a Banana Walnut Block cake for $9.00, plus one Curry Puff (chicken) for $2.50, intended for my family's breakfast tomorrow.
When I got home around 6pm to arrange the cakes, I was shocked to discover the Lychee Rose cake's expiry date was 16 March 2024, which is tomorrow!
I called and spoke to Irene, the staff member who served me earlier. She mentioned that the staff member in charge this morning DID NOT label the tag with a 'Less 20%' discount.
If I had known the cake would expire tomorrow and that we wouldn't be able to finish it all by then, I would not have purchased it in the first place. This is NOT about receiving a big discount.
May I ask what the standard protocol is at Polar Puff & Cakes for handling food that is nearing its expiry date? Not all customers will want to buy cakes or puffs that are about to expire, even with a discount.
I specifically came to Novena Square after reading their good reviews. However, this has been a BIG disappointment to me. I don't think I will purchase from Polar in the future. I truly believed the reviews were accurate!

Bought a Strawberry Swiss Roll log for $9.8 this afternoon on my way to Novena MRT. My husband and both kids were sharing the cake after dinner and found the taste was bad. They discovered the cake was expiring today! Extremely shocked. Shouldn't the staff give customers a heads-up for items near expiry? Or was the staff just trying her luck that no one cares about the expiry date.
