Rumah Sayang is a MUIS-certified halal eatery located at 50 Jurong Gateway Road (#B1-41/42) in JEM shopping mall, offering a Peranakan-themed dining experience centered around authentic Singaporean local fare. Created by the team behind Red Ginger restaurant, Rumah Sayang combines affordable pricing with traditional Nonya flavors and classic Malay dishes, establishing itself as a go-to destination for shoppers seeking familiar home-style cooking.
The restaurant is particularly renowned for its signature nasi padang and nasi lemak, which form the cornerstone of its menu. Diners are greeted by an extensive nasi padang display featuring a wide selection of pre-prepared dishes including curries, sambal-laden proteins, and traditional vegetable preparations. Beyond the nasi padang concept, the menu encompasses local Singapore favorites such as laksa, mee rebus, mee siam, lontong, and roti prata, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the nation's beloved comfort foods.
One of Rumah Sayang's standout offerings is the Curry Fish Head Set, priced at S0.90 and accompanied by two plates of white rice, showcasing the restaurant's ability to execute more substantial dishes alongside its cafeteria-style selections. The menu also features sizzling wok dishes including Nasi Pattaya, bringing theatrical presentation to casual dining. The kitchen emphasizes traditionalist Nonya flavors while maintaining the semi-self-service format that keeps prices affordable.
The restaurant's design features marble tables and red-cushioned seats visible from afar on JEM's basement level, creating an inviting space that balances casual accessibility with thoughtful aesthetics. Operating hours extend from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, accommodating breakfast through dinner crowds. The semi-self-service model allows diners to select their preferred dishes while keeping operational costs down, translating to competitive pricing that attracts families and value-conscious diners.
Customer reviews present mixed perspectives, with the restaurant earning a 3.9 out of 5 rating on Halal Boleh based on 10 reviews. While some diners appreciate the nice restaurant decoration and affordability, others find the food taste quite average. Nonetheless, Rumah Sayang maintains its position as a convenient, halal-certified option in Jurong East for those seeking authentic local Singaporean and Nonya cuisine in a shopping mall setting.

Takeaway for the rice. 2 vege + 1 small curry chicken meat cost a total of $8.10. The dishes were cold when I got back to eat, not even warm at all. Anyway, this is my first and last try.

The restaurant decoration was nice, but the food's taste was quite average. In fact, the briyani rice was not properly cooked; it was dry and hard. For the price I paid, I could have gotten better briyani elsewhere.

I've tried this store multiple times for lunch, sampling various dishes from chicken and mutton to beef rendang. Today, I ordered the beef rendang, while my colleague opted for the chicken rendang. The set came with two side dishes, including options like fried egg, vegetables, fried tofu, or Begedil.
*Customer Service*
The auntie who served us was friendly and communicative, making requests easy. With minimal fuss, I'd rate their customer service (4/5).
*Beef Rendang*
The beef rendang stood out with its unique, aromatic curry flavor – a true reflection of the chef's skill. The strong, thick curry sauce blended perfectly with the beef, earning a (4/5).
*Sides and Extras*
The cauliflower was cooked to perfection – crunchy and not overcooked (4/5). The fried egg was omelette-style with a sprinkle of onion leaves for added flavor (3.5/5).
*The Chilli Game-Changer*
Don't forget their special chilli add-on if you can handle the heat! It really elevates the whole dish.
*Value for Money*
The total bill came up to $18.90 for 1 chicken rendang, 1 beef rendang, and 2 coffees. Definitely worth coming back for!

This place is usually crowded, so I'm glad to be here on a quiet weekend morning. Echoing previous reviews, the service staff is efficient, but don't expect smiles and friendly banter. The lontong was good, with just the right spice level.

The mee rebus was extremely yummy, and we also added bergedil. The service staff can be a little too fierce, especially towards non-locals, but otherwise, they are pretty fast and efficient.

Good selection of tasty dishes with pretty generous portions. Conveniently located within Jem, it's easy to see why this place is always usually full. There's a good amount of seats with a pretty quick turnover, and it's probably a more economical option within Jem (depending on the chosen dishes).

Finally tried this long-standing nasi padang shop, and also learned that it's part of the Red Ginger brand, which has various other outlets across the island.
We opted for the fish curry set for 2, and added 2 vegetable dishes for a total of under $30 – which we thought was fairly priced, given that it's ultimately a nasi padang shop.
The curry fish head didn’t have a ton of meat, though there was still enough for the 3 of us. It did come with a lot of vegetables in the claypot, and tasted a little spicy.
The tahu goreng that came with the set was well-seasoned and easy to enjoy.
The potato was one of the nicest ones I've had, with that flour coating that other shops don't usually have.
The broccoli was pretty normal, a must-have dish in our meals (a green of some sort).
Definitely a spot we will return to in the future for our nasi padang fix now that we've tried it!
