The food is okay, quite average. The double beef is disappointing; there's still too little beef. I would have liked more beef for what I paid.

(+) Food is good. (+) Price is reasonable. (-) It's really not worth paying extra for the long beans – the serving is literally just two strands. (-) The queue system is so chaotic I ended up queueing twice. (-) Service is slow. (-) It's a typical food court, so it's a little noisy during peak hours.

I ordered the basic pepper rice with beef, and my goodness, I snorted out loud at the portion size. The beef slices were incredibly thin and barely covered 60% of the rice. It definitely doesn't fill you up at all.

Ordered the beef set for $7.50 and double beef for $2.30, totaling $9.80. The price is steep for the portion size, but it's hard to go wrong with Pepper Lunch, especially with how you can customize the doneness. The rice is always tasty with their MSG butter mix, and it can get charred to a crisp, which some people absolutely love. If you prefer your beef less cooked, just place it on top of the rice to control the doneness. The corn adds a different dimension. You'll definitely get a good beefy flavor if eaten with the honey sauce, but if you want added sweetness, just dip the beef in the sauce.

I don't really understand the hype around Pepper Lunch, but this express version seems like a good place to try since it's much cheaper and you can get further discounts with a Kopitiam card. I ordered the salmon dish. While queuing up, I saw them preparing it. It's really just rice in the middle, a few pieces of salmon on the side, and condiments on top. Then I get to bring it back and 'lou hei' (toss) it myself. Maybe that's the whole point(?). Anyway, the portion is quite small.

Before shopping, I had lunch at Food Junction, located on the 4th Floor of NEX Serangoon Central. It's conveniently accessible by public transportation and Serangoon MRT. I enjoyed the Salmon & Chicken Combo at Pepper Lunch Express with honey brown sauce (蜜汁甜酱), a bit of garlic soy sauce (蒜香酱油). The delicious savory flavors were enhanced when I mixed in the ingredients. It was very tasty and flavorful! Yummy! ☘️ The atmosphere had good ambience, cleanliness, and was spacious.
