Polar Cafe represents the hospitality-focused extension of the renowned Polar Puffs & Cakes legacy, operating strategically within Singapore's healthcare institutions to serve both medical staff and visitors with quality halal-certified refreshments. Located primarily at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Mount Alvernia Medical Centre, Polar Cafe provides a convenient dining solution for those spending extended time in medical facilities. The cafe operates as part of the broader Polar family, which has secured over 90 years in Singapore's food industry since 1926, bringing decades of culinary expertise and halal certification to the healthcare environment. This specialized positioning allows Polar Cafe to serve a unique niche market while maintaining the high standards and halal integrity that the Polar brand has been known for across generations.
While Polar Cafe's menu offerings are more streamlined compared to the extensive Polar Puffs & Cakes bakery chain, they maintain the brand's commitment to quality baked goods and refreshments suitable for the medical facility environment. The cafe provides essential food services including light meals, beverages, and selected baked items that cater to the needs of healthcare workers, patients' families, and visitors who require convenient, halal-certified dining options during medical visits. The connection to Polar Puffs & Cakes ensures access to the brand's signature items when appropriate, including their famous curry puffs and various pastries that have been customer favorites for decades. The halal certification maintained across all Polar establishments ensures that Muslim customers can confidently choose from the available offerings without dietary concerns.
Polar Cafe's significance extends beyond typical food service by providing comfort and familiarity during often stressful hospital visits, serving as a reliable source of quality refreshments when people need them most. The strategic placement within medical facilities demonstrates Polar's understanding of community needs and their commitment to serving Singapore's diverse population in various settings. As part of the broader Polar ecosystem that includes over 30 bakery locations across Singapore, Polar Cafe contributes to the brand's mission of making quality halal baked goods accessible throughout the island. The cafe's presence in healthcare settings reflects Singapore's commitment to inclusive dining options and ensures that dietary requirements are respected even in specialized institutional environments.

Alice is very rude. When I asked for warm kopi, she retorted, "You expect us to add tap water???" She could have simply said they don't have warm water. What an attitude! Then she added, "I am just telling you the truth, we add tap water," with no apology. Dear management, I don't think you are sincerely sorry for our bad experience with your staff. After so many bad reviews, she's still standing tall. Tell me some other things we don't know.

Nicely decorated and clean. However, it is stuffy inside and the air conditioning is almost non-existent. Service is fast and prompt. The Kopi O is good and reasonably priced at $1.40. The curry puff, however, is expensive and without much filling, as you can see from the picture. I don't think I'll come back again.

I agree with some of the reviews here. The aunty wearing black glasses manning the cashier is very rude. She raised her voice at me just because your slow NETS merchant was still processing. I am not walking away, especially when I spent only $5. Please laaaa. And you had the cheek to roll your eyes at me. I've always hated this outlet.
Update 1 Jun 2025: No major difference to customer service here despite my feedback. The auntie manning the counter is super deaf and irritating, as I had to repeat my order twice. Her colleague keying in the order is no different. She keyed in the wrong order and didn't mention thanks when I purchased. Do we owe you people a living? Mind you, your salary is based on business, okay.

I rushed down to get some cake for my sister who is admitted. The closing time indicated was 9pm. I arrived at 8:35pm, but they said they were closing because everything had finished, even though there were still cakes on the display shelves and someone was still eating in the store. They didn't even bother to ask what I wanted to buy before ushering me out. So disappointing.
The lady closing the shop looked unhappy when I pointed out that the sign on the glass said 9pm. She then went inside to complain to the other staff while watching me the whole time I walked away.

They overcharged me, and when I pointed out their oversight, they just raised their voices and said, 'Ok, ok, we'll return it.' There was no apology at all. If I hadn't checked my receipt and had gone home, I wouldn't have bothered to come back.

Classic polar puffs and cakes are sold here. The staff kindly recommended a cake set when I wanted to buy a cake and a hot beverage. The set for a puff and coffee/tea, and a cake with coffee/tea, costs more economically than if bought separately.

Update: The long chairs have been replaced now, so you don't need to worry about sliding off. The original long chairs needed to be changed to heavier ones because I almost fell off one! I sat on one side, and the other side lifted up, causing me to almost slide off. Otherwise, the food is alright and the service is also alright. I love the atmosphere as well; it's a clean and quiet spot to relax.

The cakes and puffs are undoubtedly delicious. However, the customer purchasing process and staff attitude need improvement. This afternoon, when I went to the store, the staff at the cashier shouted 'Pay here,' but there was no one taking orders on the other side. Consequently, 2-3 customers who were familiar with the menu went straight to the cashier to pay, even though they were behind me. I was stunned! How could they be allowed to pay before me? I then told the cashier that I didn’t remember the cake’s name and asked why my order wasn’t taken on the other side, in front of the cake display. She was dismissive and didn’t even apologize. I don’t think this is an appropriate purchasing system.
