Ordered: Shioyaki grilled sea bass set (), Aburi cheese beef Hamburg curry rice (), Aburi Trio Mayo Tamago ()
Firstly, it wasn't shioyaki as the fish didn't seem to be salt-grilled. It was bland and overcooked. The side dish of daikon was commendable.
Secondly, the beef Hamburg was tough, dry, and looked very different from the photo (you can compare it to the thicker Hamburg shown). The cheese slice was average, and the curry was also average.
Thirdly, the tamago was average, but the mayo wasn't a Japanese brand.
Lastly, in terms of service, the tamago, which was a sharing dish, came last and very late. We had finished our main dishes and waited a while before the tamago arrived. (Please don't assume I didn't chase the staff or specify for it to come first.)

The food is average. The service is non-existent. There was no greeting, warmth, or help. When I asked for pickled ginger for my maki, I was told they are not allowed to serve it separately, with no explanation of what that meant. Even if there were an extra cost, which would be odd, at least let your customer know how to get some pickled ginger. It's a common condiment at a Japanese restaurant.

Friendly service, an open ambience, and good food options with appealing dish presentation are hallmarks of a good cafe. Sadly, the food quality, at best, is at food court standard. The Mixed Tempura Udon ($13.90++) was served with a bitter-tasting broth, and the udon tasted average. The tempura (a mix of fresh prawns and vegetables) was let down by the batter. The Miso Grilled Halibut ($18.90++) had fish that seemed fresh but had a burnt taste and hardly any flavour. The rice served was not Japanese rice, as reasonably expected in a Japanese cafe at this price point. The miso soup was also bitter.

We decided to try GyoGyo Japanese Grilled Fish & Sukiyaki at Funan after seeing good reviews, but unfortunately, it was a letdown. The food quality was poor—our unagi bowl was extremely salty, and the miso soup was just as bad. The chicken sukiyaki wasn’t great either. For what we got, the total bill came to just over $60, which didn’t feel worth it at all. On the plus side, service was okay, and there was no wait for a table. However, with so many better options at the same price point in Funan, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Nice atmosphere for a relaxed lunch. We ordered a pasta set with mushroom sauce and grilled chicken; the mushroom sauce was delicious and full-bodied, and the chicken was perfectly grilled and seasoned. The rice set also had a very pleasant flavor. The service was quick and friendly.

After meeting Will Butler Adams, the CEO of Brompton Bicycle, at Brompton Junction in Funan Mall, Donkey and I were looking forward to a good lunch. We were joined by our friend, her two sons, and her helper. GyoGyo seemed like a convenient and tasty option.
We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including Hot Japanese Tea, Iced Cucumber Yakult Mix (surprisingly refreshing!), Spicy Salmon Roll, Grilled Corn Ribs with Butter Shoyu, Grilled squid, and Vanilla Ice Cream. I ordered the Grilled Shio Salmon Spaghetti, while Donkey ordered the Nabe Halibut Set. Our friend's helper went with the Chicken Katsu Curry Rice.
Here's what we enjoyed:
• Cucumber Yakult Mix: The Iced Cucumber Yakult Mix was a surprising hit! The flavors paired really well, and it was so refreshing on a warm day.
• Main Dishes: My Grilled Shio Salmon Spaghetti was pretty good, and Donkey said his Nabe Halibut Set was nice. The halibut was cooked perfectly, and it was a satisfying meal for him.
• Variety: GyoGyo has a good variety of options on their menu, making it easy to find something for everyone.
A Minor Hiccup, Handled Well:
We did encounter a small issue when one of the sons found a fishbone in his Vanilla Ice Cream. However, the staff were incredibly apologetic and immediately offered to replace it. While he declined, we really appreciated their prompt and sincere service recovery. They even voided the charge for the ice cream, which was a very kind gesture.
Final Thoughts:
GyoGyo offers a solid and enjoyable Japanese dining experience. While the food was generally good rather than exceptional, the wide variety of options and the excellent service recovery made it a worthwhile visit.

Super fulfilling and delicious! I love my pasta with Saba the most, and the prawn roll which doesn't have much prawn... lol. The beancurd udon soup wasn't that great apparently; my husband said it was bland, maybe the taste wasn't there. But the grilled beancurd with mentaiko sauce was superb.

A Halal Japanese-style food restaurant at Funan Mall. The taste and flavour are quite nice, though they tend to have a very dominant sweet flavour in their dishes.
