Opted for a light dinner at Yoshinoya NEX and ordered their smallest portion. While the meat looked plain and bland at first glance, it was actually well-marinated with just the right balance of saltiness and flavor. However, the rice quality doesn’t quite match up to Sukiya’s standards. Overall, it's a good option considering the price and pleasant dining environment.

The amount of beef provided for the beef bowl was very stingy, and the soup tasted like flavoured water. For the price paid, I could get a more satisfying meal (with a drink) at other fast food outlets. This is probably my last time dining at this outlet.
I looked through past comments and saw many feedbacks about the puny portion, yet nothing has changed since then. Perhaps management is too complacent and pretends to listen to customer feedback, while nothing has changed on the ground.
The lady staff couldn't understand English and I had to speak to her in Chinese.

The place is too cramped. The male staff making and serving the food is rude and doesn't talk to customers. This isn't the first time I've experienced bad service from this male staff, but I've let it slide every time. The portion is so small compared to other times I've visited. I asked for mayo, and he looked so reluctant and only squeezed out tiny blobs. Every time I come, the portion gets smaller, but the price remains high. Please make some changes.

The place was quite warm as it was near the entrance. The female floor staff was inconsiderate towards the diners. She was dragging and banging stools and chairs while clearing and cleaning tables. It was so loud that some diners were startled. For a Japanese restaurant, this is very different from Japanese culture. The staff needs more training and guidance.

Update Jan 2025: Tried the new Teriyaki Chicken combo today, hoping to be proven wrong, but sadly it still falls well below expectations. It might be a pretty hefty size for a chicken thigh, which I appreciate for $13.90, but where's the Teriyaki? I didn't taste anything from the skin nor meat; in fact, I barely registered any taste at all. The entire chicken was bland, though it was cooked through. I have had BBQ chicken from supermarkets that tasted better. I actually felt that the usual 3x fried chicken chunks were better; at least they had some taste.
What happened to the Yoshinoya that first arrived in SG? I recall it was soooo close to the ones I had in Japan. But from that point, it's been downhill all the way. The gyudon lost like 90% of its flavour and color; now it looks like a washed-out, blanched version of its former self. And they removed the Teriyaki Chicken combo meal, replacing it with Karaage that's pretty weak. The Teriyaki chicken from before was grilled until the skin was slightly charred and drizzled with Teriyaki sauce; it was heavenly. They did bring the Teriyaki Chicken back last year for a short promo, but just like the beef, the chicken looked like it was boiled and then teriyaki sauce was doused over it. Sad.

My family and I have been long-time customers of Yoshinoya outlets in both Singapore and Japan for many years, particularly during our travels. We’ve always appreciated the consistent quality of their food.
Being familiar with their beef bowl (gyudon), we often request an extra bowl of sauce to moisten the rice to our preference. We also enjoy the addition of cheesecake to their menu, which is a delightful touch.
However, during our recent visit, the portion of beef seemed smaller compared to what we’ve had before—though I could be mistaken.

As a fast food chain, the food standard is fairly consistent across different locations. Service is self-order and self-collect, which means less contact with staff for health and safety. A staff member clears tables very quickly, so cleanliness is good.
Taste-wise, I tested the kimchi gyudon bowl at different branches, and this place remains consistent in taste. It's not the best beef cut nor the most flavourful sauce, but it's also not overly oily. The rice portion can be customised to be less, which is a good option if you're calorie-counting! The kimchi was of average quality, but one doesn't really expect high-quality kimchi from a fast food establishment.
Food was prepared quite fast and was ready for collection in less than 15 minutes. Note that this was after the peak lunch hour (assumed between 12:30-1:30pm).

I'd like to thank the staff on duty for being so welcoming and for helping us with positioning our baby stroller. The food itself was decent, and I liked that the karaage was juicy. Would recommend for a fuss-free dining experience.
